Two million jobs are supported by private capital in the UK, around 6% of all UK jobs, according to a new independent study.

The role of private equity and venture capital has come under intense scrutiny in recent years following a series of high-profile transactions, but the findings of a study from EY – commissioned by the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA) – has found that the sector plays a vital role in the growth of the UK economy.

The report also found that private capital backed businesses were worth just over £100 billion to the UK economy, around 5% of UK GDP.
