Global law firm Goodwin has expanded its Private Investment Funds practice in the Frankfurt office with the addition of fund formation and regulatory partner Dr Joachim Kayser.

“During a period of continued expansion in Frankfurt, we are thrilled to launch Goodwin’s German funds platform and amplify the firm’s dominance at the intersection of capital and innovation,” says Stephan Kock, chair of Goodwin’s Frankfurt office. “Joachim is a premier fund formation, structuring, and regulatory lawyer who will play a central role alongside colleagues in the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Luxembourg, and Hong Kong in providing solutions for clients raising and deploying capital, and lending in Europe.”

Kayser advises investment funds, asset managers, intermediaries, insurance companies, and institutional investors on regulatory and tax matters. He has significant experience in the structuring and distribution of alternative investment funds and financial products, with a particular emphasis on real estate funds, hedge funds, infrastructure funds, private debt and equity funds, exchange-traded funds, and European undertakings for collective investment in transferable securities. Kayser has been recognised as a leading lawyer by Legal 500 Deutschland, Who’s Who Legal and Handelsblatt.

In addition to Kayser, associate Guido Schlikker has also joined the Frankfurt office. Schlikker represents alternative investment fund managers and German institutional investors on the regulatory and tax law aspects of new funds and investments in alternative funds.

Goodwin’s Private Investment Funds practice supports investment managers raising capital to invest in the private equity, real estate, technology and life sciences sectors. Within the past year, Goodwin was named Fund Formation Practice Group of the Year by Law360, Investment Fund Formation and Management Firm of the Year by the Legal 500 UK Awards, Best Legal Advisor for Fundraising – Infrastructure by IJ Global and Legal Advisor of the Year for Fund Structuring by SuperReturn Awards.

Since opening in 2016, Goodwin’s Frankfurt office has grown to more than 30 lawyers serving premium European investors, lenders, and innovators across the real estate, private equity, technology, and financial services industries. The extension of the Private Investment Funds practice into Frankfurt complements the recent opening of the Luxembourg office to assist clients with structuring and setting up Luxembourg-domiciled alternative investment funds.
