London-based group hires specialist to extend private markets and infrastructure coverage

Impax Asset Management has hired Sean Maguire as a managing director to expand its work within private equity and infrastructure, the sustainable investment boutique has announced.

Maguire, who joined on 11 January, has 13 years’ experience in the renewables markets, having worked for European utilities and development companies with a focus on mergers and acquisitions. He was most recently at the Norwegian state utility Statkraft.

In his new capacity, Maguire, who will be based in London, will primarily focus on sourcing and executing new investment opportunities. Impax said his experience perfectly complemented the work of the existing private equity/infrastructure team.

His appointment follows the recent arrival of Casey Forester, who joined the same team as a director and fundraising specialist in October 2019. Maguire reports directly to Carsten Johansen, managing director and head of the Impax private equity/infrastructure transaction team.

Daniel Von Preyss, executive director and head of Impax private equity/infrastructure, said: ‘The renewable energy investment opportunity in Europe is growing rapidly, backed by increasingly supportive public policies and objectives to decarbonise energy systems.

‘Sean’s experience will be invaluable as we seek to continue to grow the Impax private equity/infrastructure division in 2021.’

Impax has undergone impressive growth over the past year, with its assets reaching a record high of £25.2bn (€28.2bn) this month.

French group BNP Paribas Asset Management sold more than 40% of its shares in the group in November with the likes of Liontrust duo Anthony Cross and Julian Fosh quick to buy into the boutique.
